Hosting FAQ
Q. What is web site hosting and why
do I need it?
A. Web Site hosting is like the house
where your web site resides. While web pages are designed and developed
on a single computer, they must be transferred to a server, or
host, so that they are available to the rest of the world over the Internet.
A host is simply a
computer that has a constant, high speed connection to the Internet. Besides
providing the
computer space for website files our hosting services offer fast connections
that an
individual business hosting its own site would find too expensive.
Q. What is a domain name and do I
need one?
A. Yes, A Domain Name is much like
a trademark or a license. It allows people to find your
website by name instead of by IP address. It also allows customers to
have a more
professional look because their website can be http://www.YOURBUSINESSNAME.com
instead of http://www.PROVIDERNAME.com/businessname. There can only be
one of any
Domain name in the world. If http://www.yourbusinessname.com is already
registered by
another company, then you must find a name that is not yet registered.
Domain names can
be only 63 charecters long in total. This includes the .com at the end
but does not include
the http://www at the beginning.
Q. How should I choose my domain name?
A. The general rules of thumb for
choosing a domain name are 1) keep it short and simple
so that people can remember it 2) try to use the .com extension if its
available, although
there are many different extensions available right now. For businesses,
we recommend a .com suffix. It is the first extension that most people
try first when searching for a website.
3) use words that a user can easily spell - if a user mispells your domain
name chances
are they won't find your web site.
